Put simply, a social media strategy is a clear outline of your brand’s goals and objectives on social. We get it, there’s so much noise out there that you might feel a little bit daunted with all the information. Let’s make it simple for you, shall we?

Here are six mistakes you should STOP making in your social media strategy:

Not having clear content pillars

Create three to four content pillars to inform the type of content you will be posting. Don’t just post random content on social media and hope for the best. Take social media marketing as seriously as you would take any marketing effort.

Not defining your target audience

Identifying your target audience will ensure that you focus your efforts on people that are interested in your services or products. Having a target audience gives you direction for marketing and ensures consistency in communication.

The people who are likely to be interested in your products or services have common characteristics, like demographics or behaviors. So, who will be most likely to engage with you on social media? Take a look at the people that are already buying from you, research their age, location, language, interests, stages of life, challenges. Your own customer base can tell you who will be your target audience on social media.

Not engaging in conversations with your target audience

If your posts get no reactions, it’s time to think about the approach you’re taking. It’s important to create content that people will interact with. So, when your target audience starts to respond to your content, make sure you interact back.

Remember that a conversation is a two-way street. Respond to your audience in the comments, and promote positive engagements.

Forgetting about analytics

An analytics tool assesses your performance and gives you valuable insights about what you have done along with results. Having an analytics tool is vital for monitoring all of this. How would you know what worked and what didn’t?

Each platform has free insights, they help you monitor your customer engagement, conversions, trends, and customer behaviors.

Thinking all social media platforms are the same

Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and any other social media platform might have the same goal, sharing content and connecting with peers. But, they are very different from each other. The biggest mistake you can make is thinking that if you post the same content for each platform you’ll have the same results. You need to stop doing that!

Each social media platform has a different algorithm and works differently. You must learn the features of each platform so that you can best benefit from these and make sure that your content gets to your target audience. Understand how each platform works to make the most of each opportunity therein.

Automating everything

While in some cases, automation is your best friend, when it comes to social media, there is a time and place for automation. You don’t want a bot to schedule a post with negative engagements, do you?

You can use automation tools to schedule your posts, or find content ideas related to your niche. But, at the end of the day, if you want your target audience to interact with the content you make, you need the human touch. You need that organic engagement that makes a brand thrive.

We showed you what to avoid when it comes to running a successful social media strategy. Are you ready to implement all this? If not, we’re always a call away:
