In today's article, we’re showing you four easy ways to increase engagement on LinkedIn. But firstly, let's talk a little bit about LinkedIn.
LinkedIn is a powerful social platform used by professionals all over the world. Companies are also successful at using it for their B2B marketing initiatives. Another thing to keep in mind about LinkedIn is that companies usually look for experts in certain industries, so your profile needs to be your new CV!
You might have noticed that the algorithm is different across social media platforms. Therefore, before you reevaluate your LinkedIn profile and create new content, you have to understand the LinkedIn algorithm.
Firstly, LinkedIn uses a four step process combined with machine learning and human decision to figure out what content is shared across the platform. Meaning your posts are analysed and classified as spam, low quality or approved.
The second thing LinkedIn does is using ”multi-objective optimisation” to test your content. Meaning what reaction your audience had to approved or low-quality content. Letting you know what content they interacted with, and the frequency.
Thirdly, based on the audience engagement to your content, LinkedIn scores your content. Meaning if your audience likes, comments or shares your content, you receive a certain score for each action. This keeps the platform account spam free. Aiming to have a higher score, means more visibility.
Lastly, if your content is doing well within your connections, then the algorithm will share your content with people outside your network. Your content will be shared in the trending section.
Now how do you increase your engagement on LinkedIn? Here are 4 easy ways:
Establish the different types of content you’ll going to create
Create content that is relevant for your industry. There are several types of content you can share for your network. You can share your blog posts, you can teach your audience tips, share exciting news in your niche, figure out what you want the followers to think, feel or do after they engage with your posts. Give value to your network, educate and nurture them.
Format and optimise your content
Ideally, your posts would catch your followers’ attention in the first few seconds. Look at your formatting. Do not write blocks of text, try to space it out. Use 1-2 sentences per paragraph. Include emojis, symbols to grab your reader's attention. Keep in mind that they scroll everyday and go through content from everything and everyone. Their attention span is limited to maybe 4 seconds. When creating posts for LinkedIn, make sure to make them easy to read, eye pleasing and easy for people to click through.
Content Quality
This is an important part of posting on social media platforms. Your content quality. Remember that LinkedIn scores your content by what action the audience took on your posts. That means, if you want the audience to take a certain action on your posts, the content must be something that attracts them. The visuals of the posts need to be easy on the reader's eye and also, need to have a certain aesthetic. And they need to be high quality, so that LinkedIn will not classify your content as spam.
Engage with your audience
Talk to your audience. Reply to their comments, don’t just post and move on. You will get more organic reach if you interact with comments on your posts. This will most likely make them return and continue engaging with you. Interact with other posts or people. This educates the algorithm about your network and it understands who will benefit from your content.
Ultimately, your success depends on understanding your audience and using the right tools and the right social media platforms. And also, having a good marketing strategy and good copy.
